Masks of deities are venerated all over India. Such masks were usually placed inside a mobile shrine, or affixed to the top of a ‘body’ made of several plants, or attached atop a stick and carried from house to house during festivals dedicated to the deity. With a Saivaite forehead mark, protruding eyes and fanning ears with holes for upper and lower earrings and a nosering, the goddess has a restrained appearance.
