The Buddha of the ‘lion’ type with broad shoulders and well defined musculature beneath the swathes of his robes is seated in the position of meditation. His gentle face with downcast eyes and the relaxed pose of his hands belie the tension in his body, which speaks eloquentyly of the Buddha’s intense concentration. For similar see the images to the sides of the Gandharan stupa, Musee Guimet, Paris.
